International Firefighters Day is a time where the world's community can recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible.

Caryn:

It is also a day in which current and past firefighters can be thanked for their contributions. This year, it will be celebrated on Sunday, May 4. Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years. In others, it's many selfless years working in the industry.

Caryn:

In all cases, it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a life. On the first Sunday May at noon, please sound off in respect to past firefighters. This is a special time to stop and reflect on the sacrifices made by them. Each year, when fire sirens sound for thirty seconds followed by a minute silence in memory of and respect for all firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty or passed on before us. You can also light it up red with red lights outside of your home.

The mattress box spring drop off and document shred event will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 9AM to noon at the Farmington maintenance Facility. Paper is shredded on-site by a National Association for Information Destruction certified shredding company and then properly recycled into paper pulp. This event is on rain or shine.
